Mars - Saturn synodic cycle

From evolutionary perspective, Mars is the subjective will of the soul, and Saturn - structure of the individual consciousness. What does the cycle of Mars around Saturn symbolize then? It's known that this pair considered a bit militaristic in traditional astrology, but what is the meaning of this cycle in EA?

Hi Leon,

Saturn correlates to the nature of reality at any moment in time. Thus, this can be inner reality of the consciouness of the Soul, and it can be the reality of the actual life conditions that Soul has created in any given life at any moment in time. It can be the overall nature of type of life that has created in this or other lives.

Mars correlates to specific types of desires emanting from the Soul that reflect it's ongoing evolutionary needs. When linked with Saturn how these desires affect the nature of the reality that the Soul thus creates: inwardly and outwordly.

At birth there will be a specific phase between Mars and Saturn: new phase, crescent, 1st quarter, and so on. The natal phase will thus correlates to how the Soul intends to go about actualizing it's desires manifesting through Mars and Saturn. The core archetype here is one of self determination ( Saturn ) to act upon these desires ( Mars ). This natal phase operates throughout the life of the Soul.

Of course Mars and Saturn are transiting all the time in our birth charts through houses, signs, and be in this or that phase with one another which reflect the conditions of our inner and outer reality at any point in time, and desries from our Soul as well. And, of course, they can be in this or that phase with one another that symolize how those those desires become acted upon in a determined way. Yet It is the natal phase between Mars and Saturn that condition ( Saturn ) how those desires ( Mars ) of the transiting Mars/Saturn/Phase is in fact actualized. So the EA astrologer needs to syntesize the natal with the transiting.

Great, thank you so much Rad for this meaningful and thorought answer! What's left - to syntesize it all together:) .. so why don't i do this exercise right here, to make sure I understand your message? So let's take 3rd Individuated Pluto in Libra in new phase conjunction Saturn in 2H, with Mars in Sag 3H in crescent phase Saturn. The evolutionary need was to initiate right types of relationships to accumulate more meaning and values in one's life, to become more resourceful and to have 'currency' in dealing /trade with these 'right-kind people'. (I don't even go into Evolutionary Intention considerations here).

Mars acts on these desires to dig some esoteric knoweldge and philosophy, so it can exchange with other smart people out there and enhance one's stock in the process.

Saturn in 2H conditions the reality by providing a limited resources to the native, leaving one empty-handed in dealing with others from the get-go. So with time the native have to bring the valuable pieces of information that form the knowledge-base to the Soul, from which it can socialize with right kind of currency in hand (esoteric knowledge, philosophical concepts etc) as equal. The way of it throughout life was to harvest large information input and internilize it (Crescent phase, that is the inner struggle), so later it can be used for weaving the web of intelligent connections/synapses of the brain:) to fetch complex concepts and deeper perceptions (Sag), to share with others. So Mars was studying a lot, getting broad academic education etc.

And of course throughout life it is going in phases of transiting Mars & Saturn and everything else for that matter (but that's another story).

So Saturn role here was creating these conditions - to restrict the initial resources of individual, so that by right action she/he could reap the rewards. Of course in the absence of action or wrong action, there'd be consequence - a personal bankrupsy in dealing with others as an equal. Not to mention inability to judge others by one's standards))) (Saturn in Libra).

Is that one possible scenario of such example?

Hi Leon,

Yes, this is entirely possible. The only issue from what you wrote is that the Soul is not entirely 'empty handed' relative to engaing with others for the purposes that you wrote about: which is accurate. Remember, with Pluto in the 2nd the Soul is coming into the current life with inherent resources that it can in fact share with others in such a way so that there is more on an equal give and take as it engages wih those that it wants to be in some kind of relationship with. Other than that what you wrote is entirely possible.

right, I can see that. So, for that discussion, Saturn adds a layer of a sense of inner limitation, feeling of not being resoursful enough to engage with others, as a natal condition, which perhaps is going to shift upon some powerful transit, let's say 1st Saturn Return. After this transit native will start to appreciate the inner resources that were always available to oneself, but not found worthy personally (inherent 2H Libra misunderstanding).

So, the life lesson from Saturn perspective, would be seeing the value of one's qualities and abilities in the eyes of others. In order to understand this point, Mars was placed in Crescent phase to Saturn, so that its discovering energy, the fact-finding-mission could be internalized, to uncover those hidden to native inner resources.

Can we say that without Saturn layer there would be no restriction between Pluto's desire to engage with important others and Mars mining the necessary currency for the equal exchange of intellectual resources?

Hi Leon,

With the Pluto/ Saturn conjunction in Libra in the 2nd house of itself there is no way o knowing whether the Soul has any sense of inner limitation. Other chart dynamics would have to be in place for that to actually be the case. For example, this conjunction of itself could mean just the opposite: that the Soul is full of itself within the sense of having great inner authority relative to the existing resources that it does have, and then feel the need to share and teach others relative to those existing resources: Mars in Sagittarius in the 3rd house.

The bottom line in EA is to fully understand the entire chart starting with the EA paradigm itself. Relative to the Pluto/Saturn conjunction in the 2nd to then locate

the sign and house, the planetary ruler of these, is in, and all the aspects that it is making to other planets. This then will correlate to what those existing inner resouces are, and the Soul's inner relationship to itself relative to those resources.

That inner relationship to itself will then be the determinent of how it relates with others, and the reasons, dynamics, of why it is relatiing in that way. In turn, this will then condition, Saturn conjunct Pluto, how the Mars in Sagittarius manifests relative to others, and within the Soul itself.
