Hi all, I'm looking to confirm how to read the speed of the Sun when interpreting a transit chart as per the JWG EA paradigm. I am aware in this paradigm the Sun is considered the slowest planetary body when reading birth charts, synastry charts and composites, but when reading a transit chart it is obvious, at least to me, that the Sun is moving quite quickly from a geocentric POV. With this in mind, in the EA paradigm is it permissible to read the Transiting Sun by its apparent speed, or are we to read it as we would a natal chart? With appreciation,
Sarah
Hi Sarah
Yes, as in a natal chart.
God Bless, Rad
Hi @Sarah Pea I have wondered similar things myself over time, and these are some personal, albeit not necessarily EA prescribed, conclusions I have come to.
Whilst the Sun is the centre of the solar system, the fact of the Earth - which is essentially a symbol for us as “the experiencer”- always being in opposition to the Sun, itself implies a centrality, even if this is not necessarily so from a Geocentric point of view.
In this way, the Sun becomes a “projected” centre, that is consciously known/experienced (Sun) rather than remaining essentially unconscious (Earth).
This projected centrality itself then emits light to the other bodies in the solar system, which themselves are also projections of various functions/dynamics/cycles inherent within the experience of Earth, but which only become CONSCIOUSLY known/experienced by the light the Sun emits onto them.
The fact of the Sun’s centre of gravity being what determines the movements of the planetary bodies throughout the solar system, is also why when determining phasal relationships, the Sun is referred to as the baseline.
In a similar way to Pluto serving at a “bottom-line” for the positions of the other planets in the natal chart, the Sun gives a central meaning to the positions of the other planets as relevant to the current life purpose.
In this way, the Sun is also a kind of “polarity” to Pluto, where Pluto symbolises in a sense the “infinitude” of the soul’s experience, the Sun symbolises the finite nature of the soul’s experience within the current, singular lifetime.
Hi all, just want to clarify - when it comes to transits, be it the Sun or any transiting body, the natal chart is ALWAYS the reference point. This is because the natal chart is stationary and the transits are moving relative to the natal chart.
So for example if a transiting body is transiting over your Venus at 1 degree Sagittarius, and the transiting body is at 2 degrees Sag, it is is a new phase conjunction to your natal Venus. This is true no matter what the transiting body is.
Thank you Ari!
