I have a question about an observation I had with Pluto in the 9th house.
I keep hearing and reading about the ninth house being more about philosophy religion and belief systems.. which really works for me when I’m looking at transits but the Pluto in 9th people (and maybe this is because they’re all Pluto in libra people) don’t seem to have anything of note in these areas. However recently I went through the course again and I realized that a big part of the 9th house is about using the forces we learned about in the 8th house.
I’ve noticed that all of these people are big into money power and status, and they are figuring out how the system works and use it to succeed.
I always related money power and status in society with Capricorn (10h) and in the evolutionary natural chart 9h comes before 10h so I would think it would be more philosophical. Thinking about their place in society rather than being it. A struggle. I read 9H being more about thinking about their place in the cosmos.
is 10h when someone has truly made it?
Also I’ve noticed a lot of successful spiritual leaders/guides have their Plutos in the 9H so I associated it more with belief systems.
But that never made sense for observations of actual people around me.
But this “using of the forces” in terms of status really does fit.
It’s a mutable house inthe quadrant of learning about the other (7H), and learning to merge with other forces (especially financially 8H, commitments etc) so it makes sense that naturally at the 9h point they would use these tools to adapt to society by figuring out what is deemed a success (successful adaptation).
Fire yang mutable in a house of right brain thinking. So seeing the big picture and learning how to adapt to it.
Has anyone else had this observation? could anyone help me make more sense of it?
Thanks so much !
Hi Domnikas, from my experience and understanding, the 9th house’s correlation to philosophy and belief systems isn’t necessarily “philosophy” or “belief system” that is explicit or codified in nature. Rather it can just in a general way refer to our personal awareness and understanding of ourselves, our relationships and our life, beyond the mundane and trivial everyday (square and opposition with 6th and 3rd houses). This is why Sagittarius/9th has correlations with the intuitive faculty, I.e. knowledge or awareness beyond what is immediately known or accessible to awareness.
So in regards to the Pluto in Libra 9th house types that you know, maybe try to frame their Pluto as being around desires to expand upon their framework of knowledge within the context of relationships.
For some this may manifest in a more consciously identified orientation to philosophy and beliefs systems, where the ethical and moral expectations/assumptions within relationships are consciously explored beyond the already known parameters (i.e. as stipulated by earlier familial and social/cultural conditioning), resulting in philosophical discussions and confrontations with others’ belief systems.
But for others, it may be less overt and rather tacit in nature. The different evolutionary states would also influence this. For example, it is probably more likely that a conscious identification with philosophy and belief systems would occur in the individuated state and beyond, whereas in the consensus these would more likely be something taken for granted not given as much consideration and reflection. However this is all generally speaking, for example there are individuals in the consensus who work as philosophy professors at a university or pastors at a community churches.
What you’ve noticed about individuals having a focus on money, power and status could also be an indication of consensus state, particularly the 3rd stage. But these would all ultimately be serving the underlying 9th house Pluto orientation - and not necessarily as an ends in themselves - which is to discover and learn about the ontological nature of relationships beyond what they already know. And in a sense, for this generation, who became adults at the beginning of the millennium and the height of modern consumerist capitalist culture, a way to do this would have been through participating in the rat race and climbing the social, corporate, political ladders, for a lot of these individuals.
It is funny as I just re-watched this movie yesterday, but an example of the above could be the personal journey of Andrea/Andy in “The Devil Wears Prada”. Through Andy’s job working in a high stakes corporate environment as personal assistant to the powerful editor of Runway, Andy learns about the nature of relationships beyond what she already knew, outside of the framework she was familiar with. Through the emergence of her own desire to expand beyond these parameters, Andy is thrown into ethical and moral dilemmas concerning the give and take dynamic of relationship, etc. and what her decisions may or may not mean about who she is as a person, what each of her personal and professional relationships mean to her, and what the whole experience means as a journey of expanding self-knowledge.
Hi, thank you so much for your reply!
Your explanation was very clear and matched what I’ve read in the course, but I’m still having trouble with this one.
When I observe charts, Pluto in the 9th doesn’t stand out to me the way other houses do.
In consensus state, it often sounds like either Pluto in Libra or Pluto in the 10th, and the 9th house themes feel less obvious.
As I understand it Libra Pluto would expand consciousness through relationships because expanding consciousness is a part of evolution so I can’t really see it specifically in 9h and not in most Pluto Libras.
When JWG mentioned “using the forces,” it resonated, but also felt very 10th house in application.
The Libra themes are loud, but I also have Pluto in Libra, so moral and ethical dilemmas don’t feel unique enough to make the 9th house influence “click” for me.
I think my struggle is that unless I can clearly see the manifestation in real life, I have trouble integrating it, and so far my observation of 9th house Pluto people hasn’t revealed something distinct from other houses.
I hope it’s clear that my frustration is internal and not with your answer, your answer is super appreciated and it makes perfect sense
